Planning a wedding is no small task. On top of all the personal considerations like gowns, photographers, venues and themes, you’ll want to consider your guests’ comfort and happiness as well. These three strategies don’t take much effort on your part, but they’ll pay off big time for the special people you want to spend time with on your wedding day.
Announce the Event on Time and Provide Clear Information
From save the date notices to the actual wedding invitations, it’s important that you send information to your guests in a timely manner. In most cases, it’s considered standard to send out save the date notices six months before the wedding. You don’t need to announce the specific venue, but announcing the city where you’ll be getting married is a good idea at this point. If you’re planning a destination wedding, you might want to announce even earlier, with some experts suggesting that you send out your save the dates a year before the wedding.
The formal invitation should be sent out closer to the actual wedding date; in most cases, two months before is sufficient. Again, though, you’ll want to act faster for a destination wedding. In either case, you might want to include a wedding website link on your save the date or invitation so you can post information and update it. This is an especially good idea for a destination wedding. Make sure to clarify all the details pertaining to what events are happening when and where well before the wedding day.
Choose an Easily Accessible Location
If possible, it’s often a good idea to choose a wedding ceremony and reception venue that’s close to major transportation routes. Whether that means choosing an urban venue near public transit lines or a destination wedding venue that’s close to a major airport with a good taxi system, it’s best to check and make sure your guests will actually be able to get to the wedding on your big day. You may be willing to travel to the ends of the earth to celebrate your union, but the people in your life—including those who care about you and want to share these important moments with you and your new spouse—may not have as much time and energy to travel to your chosen venue on the wedding day.
Keep in mind that yours may not be the only wedding your guests go to this summer, so their ability to take time out of their daily lives and travel to a remote location may be limited. If you choose a venue that’s easy to get to, that’ll make it a lot easier for guests to join you, especially if they don’t live nearby.
Make Gift-Giving Easy
Make your wishes clear when it comes to gifts. Provide registry information with your invitation and on your website so guests can shop smart. On the wedding day, provide a clearly designated gift table so guests don’t have to wonder where to put their gifts. If you plan to receive cash envelopes, provide a beautiful card box where guests can drop their cards and envelopes without confusion.
